Edge AI Startup Tercero Technologies Awarded Defense Contract Worth Up to $1.5M, Moves to Chicago

June 30, 2021

CHICAGO - June 30, 2021 - Edge artificial intelligence startup Tercero Technologies announced that it was awarded a U.S. Department of Defense contract to further develop and commercialize its tactical edge AI inference platform for realtime sensor processing applications. The contract, a Phase II award funded under the DoD’s Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program, is worth nearly $1.5M over three years if the DoD also exercises its Phase II Option.

“We are excited to continue developing our edge AI platform and focus on applications that will help keep our U.S. forces safe by supporting high-performance machine learning inference on embedded devices in the field,” says Carl P. Evans III, founder of Tercero Technologies. “We are thankful for the DoD’s continued support.”

In connection with this funding, Tercero has relocated from Pittsburgh to Chicago and has started growing its team. “We are well positioned for rapid growth over the next few years as both defense and commercial sector customers invest in edge AI,” Evans added. “I’m delighted to return to Chicago and grow my startup in one of my favorite cities.” Evans earned his JD-MBA from Northwestern University’s Pritzker School of Law and Kellogg School of Management.
